After researching America’s views on the legalization of marijuana, the conundrum confronting policy-makers is clear. Six in ten American believe the federal government should minimally legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana, saying the current system of regulation and punishment is problematic and expensive, as well as pointing out that marijuana is not substantially different than alcohol. Yet, over 80% of Americans believe that people do not take enough personal responsibility for their drug and alcohol use, and that abuse of these substances ultimately hurts everyone. So what’s a government to do???
